Frequently asked questions

Product

Do all Piedàterre shoes from Friuli fit the same way?

No, the fit of Piedàterre shoes varies depending on the model. The Dandy, Mary Jane (adult version) and Brodsky models have a smaller fit: we recommend choosing
one size larger than your usual size.

The Modigliani and Wilde models, on the other hand, tend to have a more regular fit.

If you have any questions, please consult the size guide or contact our customer service team at info@piedaterrevenezia.com.

My velvet Friulane shoes arrived with marks on the fabric: is this a defect?

No, in the vast majority of cases, this is not a defect. Velvet is a fine
fabric with a natural characteristic
: the fibres move and can create slight
variations in tone or visible marks during transport or handling. This phenomenon is an intrinsic feature of velvet, not an imperfection.

How to fix it: gently brush the velvet in circular motions using a velvet brush, following the grain of the fabric.

The fibres will return to their natural position and the colour will appear uniform. If the mark persists after brushing, please contact our customer service department for an assessment.

How do you clean and maintain velvet Friulane shoes?

Piedàterre velvet Friulane shoes require simple maintenance to preserve their beauty over time: Daily
cleaning: gently brush with a velvet brush, following the direction of the pile with circular movements. Light

stains: dab with a damp cloth without rubbing. Leave to dry in the air, away from direct heat sources.
Storage: store the Friulane shoes in a dry place. Avoid compressing the velvet so as not to crush the fibres.
As these shoes are entirely handmade, careful care will ensure their long life.

For other fabrics such as silk or wool, we recommend contacting our customer service.

Could the colour of the Friulane shoes appear different from that shown on the website?

Yes, there may be slight differences in shade between the colour displayed on the screen and the actual colour of the product. This depends on several factors: monitor calibration, the lighting conditions in which the photo is taken and displayed, and the artisanal nature of velvet dyeing, which can produce slight variations between batches.

Some colours, such as Azzurro, are particularly sensitive to these differences in perception. We are constantly striving to make our photographs as accurate as possible.

If you would like confirmation of the colour before purchasing, please do not hesitate to contact us or visit our shops in Venice, where you can see and touch the materials in person.

Can I change the size of my Friulane shoes if they are not the right size?

Yes, Piedàterre offers the option to exchange sizes for both online and in-store purchases.

To request a size exchange, please contact our customer service team, indicating your order number and the new size you require.

Can Friulane shoes be worn outside the home?

Yes, Piedàterre shoes from Friuli are designed to be worn both indoors and outdoors.

The non-slip rubber sole makes them perfect for walking on any surface, including Venetian cobblestones.
They are versatile shoes suitable for any occasion, from aperitifs to elegant events.

Is Piedàterre the first Friulian shop in Venice?

Yes. Piedàterre was founded in 1952 on the Rialto Bridge and was the first shop in Venice dedicated exclusively to Venetian Friulane shoes.

Today, it has two shops in the heart of the city: one in Rialto and the other in Campo Santo Stefano.

Authenticity

How can you recognise authentic Friulian shoes?

The original Friulian shoes are recognisable by their entirely hand-stitched soles, natural cotton velvet upper, stitched (not glued) rubber sole and 100% Italian production.

Piedàterre Friulane shoes meet all these criteria of authenticity, with no outsourcing of production

Where are the Piedàterre shops located in Venice?

Piedàterre has two shops in the centre of Venice: the historic shop near the Rialto Bridge (San Polo) and the flagship store in Campo Santo Stefano (San Marco).

Both are dedicated exclusively to original Venetian Friulane shoes.

Are Piedàterre shoes from Friuli really handmade?

Yes. Piedàterre shoes from Friuli are entirely hand-sewn, without the use of glue or industrial machinery.

Each pair is assembled by artisans trained directly by Piedàterre, in a production line dedicated exclusively to our products, located in Italy.

What materials are used for Piedàterre Friulian shoes?

Piedàterre shoes from Friuli are made with various natural fabrics (mainly cotton velvet) produced in-house with exclusive colour palettes.

The sole is made of hand-stitched non-slip rubber.

The insole and lining are made from breathable natural materials. No glues are used in their production.

Are Piedàterre shoes from Friuli sustainable?

Yes. Piedàterre shoes from Friuli are intrinsically sustainable: they are made from natural materials (cotton velvet, rubber), assembled without glue, produced entirely by hand in Italy and designed to last.

The tradition of Friulian shoes stems from the culture of reusing and recycling materials.

Has Piedàterre changed its production method?

No. The owner has kept the original 1952 production method intact: entirely hand-sewn, natural materials, 100% Italian supply chain without outsourcing.

Piedàterre's philosophy is to preserve the tradition of craftsmanship, not to change it.
